The two activities in this lesson are designed to illustrate to pupils the main features of structures using sheet materials. The first activity shows the names of the main parts of a model house. The second enables teachers to show pupils how to join sheet materials simply. Teachers should introduce, explain and discuss the following words and concepts with pupils: door, window, floor, chimney, wall, stairs and roof. Both activities show a complete model first and teachers should discuss with pupils how to disassemble and then reassemble the product.

Design a sandwich using a range of breads and fillings, comment on four areas for evaluation: taste, smell, appearance and texture.

An introduction to the properties of resistant materials

The aim of the lesson is to introduce students to a variety of different materials. Students will examine a number of common hardwoods, softwoods, manufactured boards, plastics, metals and compliant materials such as card.

Pupils without any previous learning in the subject are introduced to basic electronics. Pupils are taught the skills required to make simple electronic circuitry and will engage in the design of a complete electronic product for a target customer group. Skills such as soldering, circuit assembly, circuit design and component choice are introduced.

By the end of this lesson students should: * understand that different products are manufactured in very different quantities depending on the type of product and its customer demand * know when mass production was first introduced * know about the effect mass production has had on the economy and society * understand how quality control is achieved through the use of jigs

A series of activities to develop the pupils skills as they prepare. Emphasis is placed on the importance of hygiene in food preparation. Pupils are given the opportunity to investigate readymade meals on the market. There’s an opportunity to develop number when weighing readymade foods and measuring their area. After creating a brief, there are a series of videos to introduce making skills as the pupils prepare and cook in the classroom.
